A winter power outage can mean a disruption in business for commercial and industrial customers and mission for government agencies. The impact of these storms can be reduced by being prepared before, during and after the storm.
Before the Storm
Check standby generation fuel levels, distribute local utility outage reporting phone numbers along with utility account numbers to staff and develop relationship with local utility customer service and operations personnel.
During the Storm
Report outage to electric utility for each account experiencing an outage, monitor outage restoral on utility website and turn off major load so that it doesn't all start up the same time when power is restored
After the Storm
Contact utility customer service representative or operations manager and request meeting to discuss cause of outage and develop a plan to eliminate or reduce chance of outage in the future.
